Halism is, essentially, your guide to being cool. Now, being cool is not knowing what's hot and what's not. Being cool is not in the fit of your clothes or the pitch of your voice. It's all about mannerism. It was once said that you should live your life as if you've done it before. I could stop there and just let you all figure it out for yourselves, but I like hearing myself type, so that's not going to happen.
You've all been told two different things as you've gone through life: be yourself & be like everyone else. This conscious effort to either separate yourself from or assimilate yourself into the greater social mass has created a culture of a bunch of really uncool people. Halism is not about the quest to be different or be the same, in fact it transcends the very need to triangulate one's position on the social playing field. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, a successful Halist is in fact in a world of his or her own. Everyone else is just a fuckin guest.
Complete social dissociation is not the goal here. One must realize that we are all on the same planet, breathing the same air, fulfilling the same basic needs every day in order to stay alive. You have to realize that everyone is exactly the same. You, however, have the edge because you know this and they do not. Honestly, if everyone was aware of this FACT, there would be no need to even write this out. However, we are living in a severely divided world community.
Throughout history, resisting naming any specific influences, the primary motivation to start a war or to just plain ol' kill people was that the *people* were thought to be different, inferior. Sometimes it's about greed, and to be honest, that's when it's the most successful, but that really has nothing to do with my point. What I'm trying to illustrate is that people will ALWAYS attempt to assert themselves on others that they feel to be different or inferior. A primary statute of Halism upholds that everyone is equal and thus one's will need not be asserted upon another except if that will is threatened.
Another prime statute of Halism isn't quite as 'zen' as the last. In fact, it's more of a common sense consideration, but most of Halism is such. It concerns your presence in the attentions of others. Common outburts of circumstance and emotion entwined (commonly referred to as 'drama') are directly against the Halist code. Many things in life are fairly intermutual to the point where one does not need to sensationalize their specific experience over someone else's.
Let's take an example from earlier today. Let's say you're a male who has gone commando for the last 7 years and you're just now being asked to don underwear. While one may be inclined to turn this adventure through unseen fashion into quite the fiasco, telling everyone who will hear and asking for advice like you're auditioning for a place in someone's bed, you must resist. First, you must do the math; what percentage of the people who I am talking to have never bought underwear before and thus will find this interesting? If the answer yields above 50%, you may be justified in your attempt to advertise your quest for a banana strap. Otherwise, I would keep such information to yourself and go about this mission in silence.
