Asheron's Call 1 - The freedom of movement and action was exciting (learning to jump on buildings in Holtburg, cliff diving); Trying to run away from level 20 monsters when I had wandered too far; the amazing sunsets, the giant bridge; the first time I did Elissa's Favor quest the graphics and danger were thrilling; when the statues started attacking the town I was in it was definitely a "holy shit" moment; the first time I made it all the way through the tunnels of OHN I felt like I had mastered a murderous alien race; many other moments
Pacman, Mrs. Pacman, etc. - The sounds, the action, the challenge
River Run and all the 2D fly & shoots
Smash TV! at the arcade; Holy shit, they're all over me!
The original Legend of Zelda, whenever I would uncover a cave or staircase because I had worked so hard for it, it was such a revolutionary concept, and it was so immersive
Ninja Gaiden at the arcade, Devil May Cry at home - for the cool moves it was easy to do
Street Fighter 2 at the arcade, Tekken 3 at home - Rarely do games so richly reward taking the time to master skills
Ancient Domains of Magic (ADOM) - It's amazing how much detail is included in the gameplay; the puzzles are inherent in the situation and nature of opponents and very challenging each time you play; when you finally win through overwhelming odds after starting over at the begining 83 times and are corrupted ruinously and have to start over when you're 75% done because it took you too long all you can say is &@##
Baldur's Gate 1 - When you finally get to the town of Baldur's Gate its shocking how many realistic, interactive NPC's are around; it almost seems like a living city
Fallout 2 - Apparent freedom of action; immersive plot; convincing dialog; unified graphical look
Morrowind - You can do nearly anything; NPCs that act fairly believably, even changing as you change; fantastic ingame stories, both graphically and by ingame books
Hello, my name is Michael, and I'm addicted to Holy Shit moments in video games
