For a 5 year old, I would say GameCube. They have racing games but they also have a lot of great titles for the younger crowd. XBox and PS2 are great consoles but they are more geared to young adults to adults. All three consoles have a lot of third party steering wheels available to them so any one would work for racing games. Once you play Double-Dash, Nascar will be a thing of the past!
