exactly! good god, exactly.
we have a volunteer army and it's absolutely ridiculous (and borderline disrespectful) to twist our soldiers' motives while they're overseas doing their jobs. if there are people who choose the armed forces solely for the paid education and job security it offers, then they made the wrong decision. it seems as if those who enlisted during peacetime are longing for the days when they could make an empty commitment and never see action. today's recruits all know what they're getting into, and support the cause more than past recruits. to say that we're sending poor kids into a war is extremely nearsighted and depicts a world where service is compulsory in the absense of money and opportunity. the truth is, the armed forces are not the sole source of money and opportunity for the non college bound crowd, service is
an option, not
the option.
