Indeed, but the problem is now "Where does one find impartial observers?" Even those not directly participating in a war have an interest in the outcome in this day and age. Getting factual data from anyone is difficult, if not impossible. The winner of any armed conflict will have the most stories to tell, and this is often what becomes the "truth" of the matter, even if some of the losers are still around to tell what their version of it.
