The T is probably your best bet for getting around. It's way cheaper than taxis, and there are stops within walking distance of pretty much anywhere you'll want to go. They sell visitor's passes that are good for one, three, or seven days, and let you get on and off as much as you want. It's a pretty good deal if you plan to travel around sightseeing.
