Remember, everything pre-1.0 is not really an "end-user" release (and keep in mind, that includes going from 0.9 or 0.10 to 1.0 - campatibility may be broken). Precautions such as backing up your bookmarks need to be taken.
Sorry to hear about what happened. I lost my bookmarks once back around v0.6 - it's not fun.
