A lot of this is referring to an Augustinian understanding of Christianity - something which most contemporary theologians understand to be improper in the present context of the world.

This is from the "official" Church, which tends to be somewhat behind the popular theological current (of course, topics must be discussed in theological circles before they can ever become "officially" accepted). Point being, I have spoken to Catholic theologians who can make a very convincing argument for even sex outside of marriage to be reasonable in a caring relationship. Thankfully, Christianity is slowly but surely moving away from the Augustinian contempt for the physical world and to a new understanding of unity with the physical world.
