The original deal between Pixar and Disney was for X number of projects (five maybe, don't remember). Pixar thought that meant five films, but when the films started hitting big, Disney held that it meant five different films _and any sequels to those five._ And apparently they made it stick. Jobs was steamed, and made it clear that Pixar was parting ways with Disney as soon as it could possibly do so.
Of course, if Eisner leaves and the new regime gets down on its knees and grovels before Jobs, Jobs might change him mind. He likes groveling.
