everyone here having battery issues, i dont know what you've done to it, but i have a original 5gb ipod from 2001 which stills getsabout 8 hours of battery life. Not bad considering the ammount of abuse i've put it through.
Iceburn, try booting it in firewire disk mode (hold down menu and pause a few seconds to reset it, then hold down forward and back until it boots up) Then try running the ipod software restore on it, whether you see it mount or not.
