Why do people make such a big deal on here, does it really make a difference? I mean, at least for me I look at the content of what someone posts and not their status or post numbers...and hopefully people do the same when I post something and not assume that just because I only joined a couple of months ago, that I have nothing useful to contribute.

No, it doesn't make a difference. It is discussed because the culture on most other forums places a high importance on post count and status, so most people who come to TFP after having previously been involved with other forums are used to placing an importance on it. Hence, every now and then we mods need to remind everyone that it's not important, and this is why post count isn't shown under a person's name every time he or she posts.
