The truth is, the people that speak out against Hollywood go for easy targets. Alec Baldwin, The Dixie Chicks, Rob Reiner-these people don't have artistic intergrity, but they are popular. Doesn't that say something about the supposed middle America they don't represent? That, at the very least, America has lousy taste? Or, gasp, big business infests things for lust of money and ruins them? That if the people saying how out-of-touch Hollywood is with America were truly were in-touch with America, they'd take these people artistically seriously?
But of course you can't take Fred Durst seriously. Just as you can't take Pat Sajak seriously. Why should we be listening to you if your industry doesn't matter? Because you don't have "casual sex" with that former nude model that vacantly turns letters? He's given a platform to speak without actually contributing anything artistically. He maybe the biggest example of what he's talking about. When Martin Scorsese gives his political opinion-he's earned the right by me to take it seriously. When Sajak, Mike Ferrel, or Ann Coulter give it to me, they haven't earned that from me.
