Here is what I think. The pyramids were made by the Eqyptians on their own. Maybe they had a method of mathematics that helped them in this. Most likely this is the case that a Pharoh or someone really wanted a pyramid to be made and all the mathamaticians had the duty of figureing out equations to make these tombs. If a whack of them spent all their lives working out these equations it makes sence that they got good at it and they made great structures.
The Sphinx is older than the Pyramids. It was once a lion. The Eqyptians changed the face on it for some reason or another. There is nothing special about this other than it is big and huge. It is just like the Easter Island heads that the Rapaniui (sp?) made. Like a god or something maybe.
Also I would like to let you all know that the area where the Pyramids are was not always desert. The Nile river used to be considerably wider than it is today. Also the sand was once fertile soil where people could easily farm. This land would be spread about 100KM from the banks of the Nile (which was about 10X wider then) to the area where the Pyramids were. So its not like this area was desert and nothing was going on around there other than buildig the pyramids.
