I'm with you. Every ballot paper in Australia is done in exactly the same way - no different processes for different states - all votes are centrally counted.
OT: We actually don't vote for a prime minister directly - we vote for a local candidate, and the party with enough candidates voted in form government, who then choose a leader (though this is known before hand, and a choice would only need to be made if that person failed in his local electorate). And we number our candidates, as we work on a two-party preferred system (which means the the lowest voted for candidate is eliminated and those who voted for him count next to their second preference, until only 2 are left - the two preferred parties
