I personally cannot believe that Bush has stated that he would not draft if necessary. It may be a vote getter but it is not a prudent thing to say.

To take away the power of the draft would be ridiculous and possibly suicidal as a nation.
As stated before, I personally believe anyone stating there will be no draft is a flat out liar. Noone can predict how Iraq is going to turn. I think it'll get worse and volunteer recruiting will suffer. If it does get worse and recruitment doesn't fill the billets we have no choice but to start a draft.
You can only rotate and keep the same troops in combat so long before they get burnt out and fed up.
