Over the years our government has grown huge and like most big bureaucracies is concerned with perpetuating itself, consuming the private sector in the process. Democrats and Republicans move back and forth between their government jobs and private industry almost seemlessly. Companies hire these bureaucrats in order to have an inside track to the rule making etc.. that will favor their operations.
At one time we had citizen representatives who served a few years and then went back to their real business. Today we have full time professional polititians whose soul purpose is staying in office. They are mostly lawyers and have made things so complicated that you have to hire them or their peers in order to get by.
I cannot see in the foreseeable future the Democrats and Republicans relinguishing this power. It's going to take an economic collapse like the great depression or the devaluation of our currency to almost nothing before we finally get serious. Hopefully the polititians haven't destroyed all our freedom by then.
