I dunno... I think it goes against what many people have come to see in the Literature Forum. It's about learning who you are and expressing yourself in writing.... you're never done growing and stretching your mind. In the same way, I don't think you could ever say there was a "perfect" piece of poetry or a short story. To make a book and include "best of" would send a message, at least to me, that is conflicting with the idea of constant evolution. As soon as we start putting something on a pedestal, we stagnate the potential for change to occur and create something even better. I'd rather see people taking an active voice in the literature of those who post and request comments, hoping that we can all learn from each other, especially when someone writes something that really hits home with you.
For example, K - Wise, even though I haven't seen him in this particular forum until recently(sorry if you have been here and I didn't see!), has really made me think about some of the core essentials of life in some of the stuff he's posted recently. Open dialogue and discussion has as little or as much impact as we allow... and I'd like to say I know more about myself because of this board and the people who have posted and challenged me, or encouraged me to see myself beyond what is comfortable... it is in that uncomfortable writing that hurts that I've grown the most, and seen the world through different eyes. This evolution is so evident in the threads that people have started and kept adding to over time... sometimes I feel like I'm trespassing into someone's soul that they've bared down. There are times of tears, frustration, exultations beyond heaven, love, loss of love... all the emotions that can be encompassed and are part of the act of truly living.
And I just now realized I wrote a novel in what I intended to be a short sentence or two. It's not until you start writing that you realize what's really important to you, since the words just flow out unconciously.
