Shadows show a variety of colors and have eyes too? Hmmm .. that's new on me
First: Why would you think that a ghost would have the exact same proportions as a human? Spirits do not look EXACTLY like people do (well, rarely).
Second: What you're saying is that for it to be a ghost it has to have correct HUMAN proportions? That's simply not true. That's like saying all ghosts have to glow white..
I believe the little boy is letting his father know that he's still there.
