I don't know of any recent, good realtime squad-based tactical games like Syndicate. For turn-based games, though, check out
Jagged Alliance 2 (older, but just got reissued in a mega gold edition), and
Silent Storm. It's not the most common genre, but good games are still out there if you know where to look.
