it's really not that large when you think about it...
layers, 16 bit depth, the average size of whatever file, the print dimensions...heck, in a basic photoshop class, they teach that most of the work you wish to print will probably be over 100MB easily just to keep resolution and quality up. not to artificially inflate the file size, but to get the absolute best quality when you need it.
Heck, i have a couple of photos that are in the 150-200MB file range after edits just due to layers and such. It's not hard to do at all if you are after best quality
