I think the tone of OTP upset so many people because the characters are more like fugitives than students, at first. It was the darkest book yet.
Also, that whole bidness with Umbridge and the quill scratching of Harry just irked me because he didn't do anything about it.
Btw, I agree, Rickman owns the Snape character.
