I met my gf of just over two years now (anniversary was Oct. 1st) through my mom in the summer of 2002. I had been dumped in February of 02 by my ex, and since i stayed good friends with her until May (HUGE mistake), I wasn't over her nor ready to consider dating until well into the summer. I worked at a fishing lodge (away from the city and my ex thank god), and my mid-july i was completely over my ex and ready to start dating, which was difficult considering i was 4 hours away from the city on an island, and because every guest at the lodge was a man.

Fast forward to late August, during a week break from the lodge back in the city. My mom who does returns and cash office work at Zellers told me about this nice Asian girl at her work who had been dumped just recently by her boyfriend of 5 years. My mom said that this girl was crying all the time and was understandably a total wreck after losing the man she believed would marry her one day. My mother asked me if I would take her out, obviously just as a friend one night since I had the whole week off. I told her why not, expecting this girl to decline my mom's offer for me to take her out. Sure enough my mom comes home the next day with the girls cell phone and house phone number. I was hesistant to call, and at 9:30 or so my mom started to harass me to phone this girl so i did. I talked with her for about 30 minutes and we decided to go to the bar the next night. She picked me up and we went out for drinks to talk because the bar was still dead. We ended up dancing the whole night and having a great time together. I found her very attractive, but at that time was only concerned with making a new friend, and helping her deal with her break-up (since i had just gotten over mine a month before). I ended up seeing the next night at another bar, and then we went out for lunch the day after (a friday, my last night before returning to the lodge for another week). When i left the city I kept in touch via e-mail, and when the job was over and i was back in town we started talking more on the phone.

I remember trying to find a time me and this girl could do lunch at school, and as it turned out we had a similar spare at around 10:30am. I asked her which building she was in before the spare, and sure enough it was the same building as me (funny since the campus is huge with over 20,000 students). To add to this co-incidence we were in the same class before the spare. She had picked the class as her last elective of the year, and it was a required course for me. From then on, we started spending more time together and became closer. I found myself wanting to make this girl more than my friend but was hesistant because she had mentioned that many of her close guy friends over the previous five years had told her they had the hots for her and that they wished she would consider them for boyfriends should she break up with her ex. This had me very concerned about expressing my feeling, but after two months of getting to know each other, and time for her to move on I made my move and we have been together ever since.

Sorry for the long story, I've never posted this kind of information on a forum before ,but I thought it was worth telling.

Hopefully a few other people can share dating experiences that started through their parents.
