Interpol - Antics
During my first listen of this album, I told my friend it was bland and boring and I had very little hope for it. Unfair, probably -- so...
I've given this record a few more chances since declaring it dreary as shit, just to be fair. Unfortunately, it's still really tiresome, and I don't imagine it'll be getting any more time in my player.
I should clarify that this is the first Interpol record I've purchased, so maybe their last was better, but there is just zero on this CD that intrigues me.
The guy's voice sounds really flat and plain, almsot like he's talking, or at the very most, humming -- the lyrics are bad right from the start (opening line is "when there's no where left to run / will there be room for one more song?", and don't improve much over the course of the other tracks. I didn't expect anything musically to really grab me when I bought it, but I've even been let down there. This reminds me of The Strokes' Room on Fire, in that songs 2 or 3 thru 8 or 9 just run together all dull and melody-less, and it's all over before anything significant has happened.
Hal's score -- 4 out of 10
