Rowling supposedly went into crying fits about killing Sirius, although we never actually saw a corpse so I still have my doubts. She gave us a lifeless body with Cedric, she's left the door open with Sirius for an Obi-Wan force ghost or something, at least.
Dumbledore probably needs to die before Harry can have his final confrontation with Voldy. As long as Dumbledore lives, Voldemort isn't the all-powerful evil that Rowling would probably like him to be for the conclusion of the series. He's got my bet, although Rowling might just play it safe and whack one of the secondary adult characters.
The real question is the identity of the halfblood prince. I had a pretty elaborate prediction that it would be Dudley but Rowling came out and overtly said that it isn't him. Maybe Malfoy is secretly a halfblood? Neville?
