it doesn't matter if an Aussie band is good or not... if they have even a sniff of success overseas (re US/UK) then they'll win all of the awards (unless they go through some cancer scare and survive only to remain remarkably boring like Delta last year).
which kinda stands to reason since the only thing cooking these days at home are the IDOL children and boring Delta...
... and by cooking, i mean ARIA chart rankings (which means how many twelve year old girls go and buy your record).
i remember hearing a news report a short while back about how so many home grown artists have held the No1 ARIA rank this year... pretty much entirely thanks to IDOL promotions... but doesn't that really mean that Australian music has died.
the ARIAs have always been a joke. they will remain a joke until the day AC/DC return home and burn down the building during the awards ceremony... killing all the IDOL children, Delta Goodrem, Alex Lloyd, Pete Murray and Rove... oh, and while we're on it, lets hope Mark Holden, Marcia/Deni Hines and Ian 'Dicko' Dickson are in the building as well.
then we can take a huge sigh of relief, jack off, take a long shower, and then totally rock out to the return of decent Australian rock in the shape of new bands who suddenly find the space to be noticed now that the promo-reality music generation has lost its heroes.
