<h2>please allow me to introduce "Rocky"</h2>
this is <i><b>my</b></i> squirrel! well, at least she is <i>my favorite</i> squirrel in our backyard.
she's been around a long time, too. i know for certain since at least fall of 1998, because we had our first dog euthanized in february of 1999 & rocky was here well before then.
over the years i figured out that "rocky" is more of a "roxanne" (the appearance of the occasionally swollen nursing teats yknow), but since she comes when i call "rocky", the name remains the same.
without a single doubt, i know this squirrel distinctively not only by her short tail, but also because she showed up one morning about 3 yrs back with one eye put out.
her very keen good eye is in this pic:

her blind eye is shown in this pic:

she used to come inside my back porch door into my kitchen to retrieve nuts, but that routine ceased once we acquired the two young & not so small dogs.
so i have a clay dish, bolted on the tall back fence now to put the nuts, safely well out of the canines' access.
days to a couple weeks sometimes go by when i don't see rocky. sometimes i think she's trained her offsprings to fetch the nuts for the family. haha
anyway i am always happy to see her brave little face, because i know that one day i will never see her again.
before the new dogs, she & i almost touched a few times. almost. we both were a bit scared i guess. she did however take nuts from my hand a few times. she still allows me to get within a foot or two of her. she knows me as well as i know her. <3
