I'm sure he did, but I think making a documentary to make money is kind of like playing the lottery to get rich - sometimes it happens, but you have to spend a lot and get really lucky :-) No one could have predicted how successful his movie would be (and it's not THAT successful... Mostly an underground hit. I haven't seen it playing anywhere but the art-house/foreign movie theaters.)
