I have to agree with MooseMan3000. For $750 you can get a kick-ass AMD setup, but only a upper mid-range Intel one.

I recommend:
Motherboard: Asus A7N8x Deluxe (has sATA, six channel sound, etc etc) ($86)
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (barton core) ($200)
Memory: Corsair TwinX 1G (2x512M) ($224)
Total: $500

That's nearly the fastest setup you can get on a 32-bit platform (without spending gobs on an overpriced Intel processor), and it still leaves you $250 to spend on other goodies, like a new video card, faster hard drive, etc.
