Apostrophies! Why can't people get these right? It is Rule Number One in Elements of Style.
1. Form the possessive singular of nouns with 's.

Follow this rule whatever the final consonant. Thus write,
Charles's friend
Burns's poems
the witch's malice
"Charles's friend" is what people muss up most often, and personally, it drives me nuts.
