Well, it seems no one responding is actually addressing your question because the situation isn't even applicable. Being 5'7" and white is a little awkward, but there's not much one can do about genetics. And there is no denying the ethnicity aspect, because there are different average heights which dictate different norms.

As to why women seem to prefer taller men (yes, just look at the Fark Personals), I would guess it is an implicit biological preference as others have implied. Even for the shorter women, I think there is still the desire to seek out a partner of "average height", regardless of the disparity. It is also more advantageous to be above the average than below it. On the male side of the coin, when the female is taller, there seems to be a sense of emasculation which only compounds the existing problem.

Nonetheless, it is important to not carry a chip on one's shoulder because of a perceived genetic short-changing. It is unfortunate that, like size, height matters to a certain degree. Find solace in always having enough leg room.
