I watched the Biography show on Reeves last night right before Dog the Bounty Hunter. He supported a lot of causes before his accident (i.e. special olympics, the possible execution of artists in Chile, etc.) so I think your last statement is absolutely incorrect.
The accident changed his focus, it didn't suddenly make him "charitable".
