The potion way is the traditonal cheese way to power, but outside of that alchemy is deadweight. Until that point, alchemy won't be as useful. I recommend focus on blunt weapon, with secondary in longsword. For magic conj, myst, alteration, and healing. Destruction seems impressive, but you can do as much damage in melee, without having to constantly rejuv mana. Also, pick either heavy or light armour and stick to it, dont switch and don't take medium or unarmoured. Block is a necessity, not just for the blocking but because of the extra slot for magic. As for sign, I'm partial to lady. Atronach seems cool, but I found always needing mana potions sucked (especially early). Also, the absorb isn't that necessary. However you play, it's a great game and one of my all-time favorites, make sure and enjoy.
