There is a huge difference between losing a step when you are a good player, and losing a step when you are among the greatest ever. The latter doesn't mean much since you are still better then pretty much everyone else.
Take a look at Deion Sanders. He's 37 and has been out of the league for three years. He had an interception Sunday night where he ran stride for stride with Lavernious Coles, who is a pretty fast guy, and timed everything perfectly. Everyone knows he's lost a step, but he's still a very good player.
