If your friend plays a wizard, take Atronach for sure... He won't be able to touch you!
{edit} Hm, looks like I may have misunderstood... I thought you guys were dueling... In any case, Atronach is a great sign because of the 50% chance to absorb magic... You'll have a tough time playing a spellcaster under that sign (since you can't regen mana), but if you focus on melee or ranged combat with a few spells to supplement, mana potions will be good enough to keep you going... {/edit}
