I think the 'core' is pretty safe (Harry, Ron, Hermione), at least until the last book. The interpretation is off in the original post, however: the question was "any more characters", and the answer was "yes". So why do they say "that character", as if she said it would be only one?
I think they'll be a few significant deaths, and perhaps even carnage (lots of NPCs) over the next two books.
