For whoever said that the "majority" of people get pierced to hurt themselves: no, just no. There are SOME people who do. And in that case, it can be a much safer means of expressing the desire to feel pain than a self-inflicted (NON-STERILE) cut. However, most people (myself included) do not get pierced for the pain. This is evidenced by the fact that the most common question I hear hanging around the tattoo shop is "Is this gonna hurt?" when someone comes in for a piercing.
Back on topic: I'm not pierced below the neck yet, but I just ordered 2 12Ga barbells (Anatometal!) and some 12Ga. Industrial Strength needles. I'm thinking it's time to do a double frenum! I've decided to do this one by myself, since I feel uncomfortable with most local piercers, and I can be sure of the quality of needles and jewelry this way, whereas most local parlors don't use jewelry that meets my personal standards for quality and finish.
Once I get it done and (hopefully someday) have a chance to test it out, I'll report back here with my "findings".
