First of all the trajectory of the crane would be as indicated with the little spots meaning that it would only hit the gnome in the head. It'll only hit him because the drawing is in 3D which means that there are multiple layers. Something at the background (layer 6) could indeed hit something in the foreground (layer 1) but then the trajectory would have to point in that direction and not like my crane which is a vertical trajectory. See?
