By ranking, as such is the case in IRV, I have to place a vote for candidates I do not like. If all my choices tie before that candidate, the candidate I do not like has a chance to win because of the way I voted. What are you talking about? You don't have to vote for any candidate you don't like. Just rank your 3 favorite or however many you want. No candidate wins unless he gets 50% + 1 of the vote. Look at the example I linked to in my previous post.
