Trinidad vs Mayorga...Sat/3rd
Any thoughts?
Hopefully this bout will last more than a round or two. I feel that either of them could knock the other out in the early rounds, but if the fight goes deep, Trinidad will probably win decisively. Mayorga's straight-forward style is tailor-made for Trinidad, but only if Tito can weather the early barrage of wild punches Mayorga will throw. I think this fight will boil down to how well Tito counterpunches, like in his fight with Joppy: every time Joppy overextended on a punch or missed wildly, Tito was there with the left hook or right cross. Mayorga takes a punch a lot better than Joppy though.
Trinidad is one of the best fighters ever. Mayorga is not. If Mayorga can go the distance with Tito, and land some solid power punches along the way, he can maybe gain a little respect in the boxing world. A lot of people don't give him credit because of his style, or lack of it. But there's no denying he's a tough s.o.b.
I'd really like to see Trinidad back in the boxing world, regardless of the outcome of this fight. I'd love to see him fight someone like Winky Wright or Jermaine Taylor.
