I was thinking of, by restarting it. Depends on which version/implementation you've got, I think. I know one way to start XFree86 (which is now called something else) was startx or maybe xstart (been a while), but how to
kill it in the first place, I couldn't tell you offhand. I think there's some kind of key combination.
