Basically when a woman is at her most fertile (around ovulation time) is when you should be most worried about something like this. The cervical mucus produced during this time is an optimal environment for sperm to survive and potentially make it inside. I have heard that if you look at the mucus microcopically, you can even see that it creates little channels to guide the sperm onward.
She could just go get the "morning after pill" or you could play guessing games with where she's at in her cycle. The morning after pill doesn't necessarily work and can produce side effects like disabling nausea (in my case it did anyway). The guessing method can result in pregnancy - I can vouch for that too.
