I think the reason why people are necessary is because the spirits need a medium to go through. Obviously this is speculation because this is not science, but that makes sense though. It's a lot harder to subconsciously spell out words when your not looking at the board as well. The reason why you never hear good stories is that there not as fun to tell. I've definately had more good experiences with the ouija than bad, it's just that when they're bad - <i>they were frightnening</i>.
