i've if you mix up your running with...
1. long distance/fitness oriented bike rides it will improve your cardiovascular fitness. you can keep your heart at a higher BPM for a longer period of time because the anaerobic motion of your muscles isn't as big of a restraint.
2. sprints. a mile is approximately 1600 meters, so run a mile total distance broken into shorter sprints. i run three 400 meter sprints and four 100 meter sprints. training your legs to be quick and to be used to sensation of speed will dramatically decrease mile times.
this strategy has helped me quite a bit. good luck all.

If you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.
