Just downloaded it and I didn't have any trouble. By chance, are you running ZoneAlarm? I noticed that the first time I started it, the screen went black and the computer seemed to freeze. I was able to shut the demo down and I saw that ZoneAlarm had popped up behind it because it was trying to access the network.
