In the year or so before the attacks, I would turn on CNN to "see if anything exploded," as I half-jokingly told my girlfriend. Since the fighting started in Israel in September 2000, I had an unesy feeling that we would soon be witness to some pretty bad happenings in the world. I'd always been a "worst-case scenerio" kind of guy... I was sure that the Elian Gonzales thing would be a trigger for some sort of big Cuba conflict, and the China spyplane incident scared the shit out of me. Both these just fizzled out into nothing, but I found it interesting that we got attacked a year to the month after the Israel fighting started.

So on 9/11 I felt as if my fears were coming true that the world was falling apart. Although I was stunned by the attack, I was not entirely surprised. Anyone who thinks they hate us for our "freedoms" should educate themselves a bit.

*edit* I want to clarify that I don't think that the 9/11 attacks were justified. Murder is murder.
