I would have to say that running outdoors is much better overall, paritally because of the way one moves on a treadmill. I can run a seven minute mile easily outside, and usually do my 2 miles in about 15 minutes. On a treadmill, I'm lucky to get an 8 or 9 minute mile. Outdoor running can be more stressful on your joints, but the fresh air and lack of confinement (sides of tread) allow most people to move at a better rate and for a longer period of time. Just something to think about down the road.
