Several kids were killed and/or mauled. Even one is too many in my mind.
France and Germany have also banned them. I suspect even more countries have done so.
I believe the original Dangerous Dogs Act in 1991 banned their import or breeding. I don't believe the existing dogs were destroyed, and some exceptions were (are?) allowed. Some background detail can be found at
