I have played DAOC, Dark Age of Camelot, since Feb 01, it was a great game when it came out but I'm leaning away from it now with Trials of Atlantis (Expansion pack) and the recently released Frontiers (which is the Frontiers being remodeled(frontiers meaning battle grounds(keeps and such))) was not the greatest thing that company, Mythic, could have done to the game. I am currently playing in WoW Stress Test until that is over and I know I'll be anticipating Open Beta and the final release of the MMO. So far it is a very good game and runs very smooth! Feels like the old Dark Age of Camelot which is a very good thing
But if you are looking to give something a try I'd say DAOC while some will say EQ. Or you could wait for World of Warcraft (WoW).
