I don't think platforms are sexy or look good because they really are clunky and they tend to dwarf the foot, which just looks ridiculous to me. I'm picturing a girl in shorts, you follow the line of her leg down and then there's four or five inches of brightly-colored rubber flip flop below her foot - weird. It seems so out of place, like "exactly what is that thing on your foot? And no, the Clydsdale walk is not flattering.
I also think the wedge is damn ugly, looks vaguely orthopedic to me. I really prefer that the heel of the shoe be distinct from the rest. I can't wear narrow heels because of my ankles though, so that leaves me with one option: the clunky heel, like you see on boots and such. Personally I far prefer a heel I can run in if I had to anyway.
Maybe some day I'll study up on how these preferences have changed through the generations...I've been vaguely interested ever since the day my mother pointed out a pair of clog-like shoes with a mono-heel and said, "I've always thought that type of shoe was so sophisticated and sexy." I was like HUH?? but then I noticed other women her age wearing them, all dressed up and such.
