Hmmm... a friend of mine had a similar problem. Turns out that she'd stay awake, spider hunting, for fear that there was a spider around every corner. Apparently it was one of the signs of her OCD (obsessive/compulsive disorder). She's been on a new medication to help with the OCD, and the need to spider hunt went away with it.
